Bike-Taxi Driver Turns Out to Be Serial Killer: Infamous Uttar Pradesh Gangster Arrested in Kolkata

Lucknow: In a major breakthrough, Delhi Police and the Uttar Pradesh STF have arrested a notorious criminal, Mohammad Sohrab, from Kolkata. Once a feared gangster in Uttar Pradesh, Sohrab had allegedly carried out multiple murders, including a brutal incident in Lucknow where three people were killed within an hour.

Authorities revealed that Sohrab had been lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail for his involvement in a 2005 triple murder case. On June 26, 2025, he secured parole citing his wife’s illness. However, instead of returning, he absconded from July 1 and had been on the run ever since.

Investigators found that Sohrab had been living in Kolkata under a fake identity and working as a bike-taxi driver through an app-based service for the past four months, using the earnings to support himself and his wife. Police officials stated that Sohrab has over 30 criminal cases registered against him in Uttar Pradesh, including murder, robbery, and dacoity.

His arrest came following coordinated intelligence inputs. Police tracked him down and detained him from a hideout in the city. Interrogation is underway to determine who aided him while he was evading arrest and to establish the motives behind his move to Kolkata.

Authorities are now probing his network of associates and whether he was planning further criminal activities while on the run.
