Bhagidari Sahitya Utsav 2025: A Festival for Marginalised Voices

Lucknow – The second edition of Bhagidari Sahitya Utsav was successfully held at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU), Raebareli Road, Lucknow, bringing together distinguished personalities, inspiring discussions, and vibrant cultural performances.

The event was graced by esteemed guests, including Dr. Kalpana Saroj, renowned entrepreneur and Padma Shri awardee,  Shiv Kumar Dwivedi, Vice-Chancellor of BBAU,  Asim Arun, Minister of Social Welfare, Uttar Pradesh, and Kanak Rekha Chauhan, founder of Metaphor Lucknow LitFest.

Inspiring Words and Grand Opening

The festival commenced with an opening address by  Asim Arun, who motivated students and attendees, emphasizing that this was just the beginning and that Bhagidari Sahitya Utsav would continue to grow in the coming years.

Ramp Walk “Jhuggi Ke Laal” – A Social Statement

A major highlight of the event was the fashion show “Jhuggi Ke Laal” by Innovation for Change, which captivated the audience. The show gained popularity for its striking replication of Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s designs, blending high fashion with grassroots storytelling.

Keynote Address by Dr. Kalpana Saroj

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Kalpana Saroj shared her extraordinary journey of overcoming adversity. She spoke about her struggle in an abusive marriage, her near-fatal suicide attempt, and the threats she faced when she entered the business world. Despite being denied police security, she obtained a gun license within a day, symbolizing her determination to stand her ground. She inspired the audience with her message that hard work and perseverance shape destiny, not luck alone.

The Q&A session saw an overwhelming response, with attendees passionately engaging with the speakers. In a moment of shared enthusiasm, the audience chanted “Jai Bhim”, reflecting the deep admiration for Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s ideology.

Musical Tribute by Ginni Mahi

The event concluded with a powerful musical performance by Punjabi folk singer Ginni Mahi, who is known for promoting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s legacy through her music. She shared her emotional connection with Babasaheb, particularly because she was born on November 26, the day the Indian Constitution was adopted. Her performance of “Fan Baba” electrified the audience, leaving a lasting impact.

The Bhagidari Sahitya Utsav 2025 at BBAU, Lucknow, stood as a testament to the power of literature, art, and activism in fostering social change. The festival left attendees inspired and eager for future editions, reinforcing the commitment to creating an inclusive and empowered society.
