Lucknow: Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU), Lucknow, has taken a major stride in pharmaceutical research after receiving national approval to conduct scientific experiments on laboratory animals. With this recognition, the university can now officially carry out ethical research on animals such as mice and rabbits, primarily for preclinical and biomedical purposes. The approval comes from the Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CPCSEA), which operates under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Government of India.
Following the approval, BBAU has also constituted its Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC), an essential requirement for research involving live animals. This development is expected to strengthen the university’s research infrastructure and contribute significantly to the advancement of pharmaceutical sciences and life sciences.
The successful registration of the university’s animal house was made possible under the guidance of IAEC Chairperson and Dean of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Prof. P.S. Rajnikant, along with Dr. Vikas Mishra, who serves as Member Secretary. Committee members Prof. Abha Mishra and Prof. V. Elangovan also played a key role in the process.

This development not only enhances the scope of academic research at the university but is also expected to attract industrial collaborations in the field of drug discovery. The institution is now well-positioned to contribute to the pharmaceutical sector by offering credible, compliant, and impactful research that meets national standards.
