Banda: Youth Dies After Assault by Miscreants; Villagers Block Highway in Protest

Banda: Tension gripped Gureh village under the Dehat police station area in Banda district after a 21-year-old youth died following a brutal assault by a group of miscreants. The incident, which occurred on November 5, led to angry villagers placing the victim’s body on the Banda–Baberu Road and attempting to block traffic in protest against the delay in police action.

According to reports, Premchand Prajapati, son of Brijbihari Prajapati, a resident of Sahadi Ka Purwa, was at home when his acquaintance Sahil arrived and asked him to accompany him to the Khet Singh Khangar crossing near Baberu Road. Once there, a group of men allegedly attacked Premchand with hockey sticks and iron rods, leaving him critically injured. The attackers fled the scene soon after.

Premchand was first taken to the district hospital and later referred to Jhansi and then PGI Saifai in Etawah, but despite continuous treatment, he succumbed to his injuries on November 9.

Following his death, Premchand’s family and villagers carried his body back to the village and demanded swift action. When police failed to arrest all accused promptly, the protesters placed the body on the Banda–Baberu highway, disrupting traffic for some time.

Police teams led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mavis Tak and Dehat Station Officer C.P. Tiwari rushed to the spot and managed to pacify the crowd. Later, ASP Tak confirmed that two key accused — Pranjal Gupta and Satyam — had been arrested, while several others, including Golu Thakur and Sahil Singh, remain absconding. CCTV footage also identified Yuvraj and Satyam among those present at the crime scene.

To trace the remaining suspects, the police have formed three dedicated teams and are conducting raids at possible hideouts. ASP Tak assured that all accused will be arrested soon and strict action will follow.

Meanwhile, members of the All India Prajapati Kumhar Mahasabha Forum, led by National President Rampal Prajapati, visited the bereaved family and demanded justice and financial assistance. The forum gave the administration a two-day ultimatum to arrest all accused, warning of a larger protest if their demands were not met.

Prominent local leaders including Gaurishankar Prajapati Nanna, Alok Daksh, Ashok Prajapati, Pradeep Kumar, and Punit Kumar Prajapati were present during the visit.

The situation in the area remains under control, with additional police deployment to prevent any further unrest.
