Aṣṭavināyak Journey Reflects Lord Ganesha’s Transition from Worship to Trial: Producer Aniruddh Pathak

Mumbai, January 2026: Sony SAB’s mythological series Gaatha Shiv Parivar Ki – Ganesh Kartikeya continues to captivate audiences with its spiritually rich storytelling, as the show currently unfolds the sacred Aṣṭavināyak arc of Lord Ganesha’s divine journey. The ongoing episodes take viewers through the legendary eight Ganesha temples of Maharashtra, shedding light on centuries-old myths, regional lore and the many manifestations of the beloved deity.

At the heart of this creative vision is producer Aniruddh Pathak, who believes the Aṣṭavināyak narrative represents a pivotal phase in Lord Ganesha’s evolution. “The Aṣṭavināyak journey symbolises a natural shift—from Lord Ganesha being revered to being tested,” Pathak said. “At this stage of the story, Ganesha steps beyond protection and prepares to shoulder responsibility. It allows the narrative to move from celebration to self-discovery, making the journey more internal and transformative.”

Pathak explained that each of the eight forms of Lord Ganesha presents a challenge rooted in fundamental human weaknesses such as ego, fear, attachment or excess. “By resolving these challenges, Ganesha not only removes obstacles for others but also experiences the emotional cost and compassion behind such acts. This is how wisdom is earned—it cannot simply be inherited,” he noted.

Extensive research formed the backbone of this track. The creative team delved into ancient scriptures, regional folklore, temple traditions and oral narratives associated with the Aṣṭavināyak shrines. “Beyond textual accuracy, our focus was on understanding the ‘why’ behind each legend—their philosophical depth and social relevance—and translating that meaning for today’s audience,” Pathak said.

The producer also revealed excitement about bringing lesser-known mythological details to the screen. Lord Ganesha is associated with 38 names and forms, many of which remain unfamiliar to the wider public. “Each form has its own compelling story and philosophical significance. Through this journey, we are consciously presenting these subtle yet powerful narratives,” he added.

Balancing authenticity with contemporary storytelling has been a key creative challenge. According to Pathak, the makers remain true to the spirit of mythology while exploring it through modern emotional questions. “Rather than offering preachy answers, we allow our characters to struggle, question and evolve. That process of discovery is what resonates most with today’s viewers.”

Pathak hopes the Aṣṭavināyak episodes will spark meaningful conversations within families. “I want families to reflect on their inner obstacles—fear, pride, impatience—and how these shape daily choices. If these stories encourage empathy, introspection and dialogue across generations, then mythology truly comes alive in a meaningful way,” he said.

Gaatha Shiv Parivar Ki – Ganesh Kartikeya airs Monday to Saturday at 8 pm, exclusively on Sony SAB.
