Delhi – Actor Ayushmann Khurrana is celebrating a record-breaking Diwali as his latest release “Thamma” earns ₹25.11 crore on its opening day. Describing it as the most special film of his career, Khurrana highlighted that the overwhelming audience response proves that festival releases do not always need to be a sequel or a remake to succeed.
Released on Tuesday, “Thamma” is the newest entry in the Madock Horror Comedy Universe, starring Rashmika Mandanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui alongside Khurrana. He said, “After carving a space for unique and unconventional films, I’ve always awaited the moment to release a film during Diwali – the festival when big stars traditionally dominate the box office. ‘Thamma’ is the biggest film of my career, and I am thrilled it released during Diwali.”
The film revolves around Alok Goyal (Khurrana), a journalist whose life changes during a trek when he meets Tadka (Rashmika), a mysterious supernatural woman who saves his life. His world turns upside down as he transforms into a vampire-like creature, Betaal, and confronts the ancient Betaal, Yakshasan (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), who seeks freedom and domination after a century in chains.

Khurrana added, “The love the film has received on day one challenges the notion that people only want sequels, remakes, or big-star films during Diwali. The success of ‘Thamma’ proves audiences crave great storytelling.” He concluded, “I’ve always dreamed of releasing a film during Diwali, and I’m delighted that ‘Thamma’ marks my first Diwali release.”
“Thamma” combines vampire romance with horror comedy, offering audiences a fresh and thrilling cinematic experience this festive season.
