LUCKNOW – The city of Ayodhya is rapidly moving forward with development projects. In addition to the construction of the Ram Temple, the city’s overall development is a key focus, with one project after another being initiated. The Tourism Department has sanctioned Rs 225 lakh for various projects aimed at establishing Ayodhya as a world-class religious and cultural tourism hub.
A Boom in Tourism and Economy
According to Jaiveer Singh, Uttar Pradesh’s Tourism and Culture Minister, Ayodhya has emerged as a top destination for devotees and tourists following the construction of the Ram Temple. The continuous arrival of visitors from both India and abroad has not only boosted religious tourism but has also led to a remarkable increase in the local economy, employment, and infrastructure.
Record-Breaking Tourist Footfall
The efforts of the Uttar Pradesh government and the Tourism Department are showing positive results, with the state leading in religious tourism. Ayodhya witnessed a record number of devotees in the first quarter of 2025. Between January and March of this year, over 20.36 crore devotees visited the city. This incredible surge in tourism at the beginning of the year was partly due to the Mahakumbh-2025. It is estimated that by the end of the year, the total number of visitors to Ayodhya could reach 45 to 50 crore.

In comparison, the number of tourists in 2023 was 5.76 crore, which increased to 16.44 crore in 2024. This growing trend in visitors highlights Ayodhya’s unique position among the state’s religious sites.
A Vision for a World-Class Destination
Minister Jaiveer Singh stated that Ayodhya is not only a center of faith but is also rapidly emerging as a world-class religious and cultural tourism destination. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, numerous development plans are being realized. The minister noted that the increasing number of devotees and tourists after the Ram Temple’s construction is a testament to this transformation. The department is accelerating plans related to tourism, infrastructure, beautification, and job creation.
