Lucknow: Ayodhya, the spiritual capital of Uttar Pradesh, is rapidly transforming into a model smart city under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Ahead of the upcoming grand flag-hoisting ceremony, the city is witnessing a series of high-tech urban upgrades. The government has placed special focus on renewable energy, green development, cultural preservation, and a strong security framework.
A major highlight of this transformation is the installation of 1,200 CCTV cameras across the city under the innovative ‘Chakravyuh’ security model, designed to ensure 360-degree surveillance and eliminate blind spots. The system is intended to monitor suspicious movement, enhance public safety, and strengthen crowd management as Ayodhya prepares for increased global tourist inflow.
Ayodhya Tops Smart City Rankings in Uttar Pradesh
Ayodhya has secured the first position among 17 smart cities in Uttar Pradesh, reflecting its rapid strides in modern infrastructure, citizen services, green mobility, and digital governance. The city’s development is being guided by the comprehensive Ayodhya Master Plan 2031, which focuses on renewable energy-based urban systems, sustainable mobility, heritage conservation, and world-class tourism facilities.
A Solar-Powered Ayodhya: Bringing Back the Ancient Title ‘Suryanagari’
Ayodhya is being reshaped as a model solar city, combining ancient spiritual identity with modern-day clean energy innovations. Initiatives such as the Museum of Temples, Vedic Forest, digital virtual darshan, climate-sensitive planning, and green mobility are strengthening its image as a global hub of religious tourism, wellness, and sustainable development.
Under the Master Plan, the city is being developed as a solar energy-based urban ecosystem. The 40 MW solar plant installed by NTPC Green Energy Ltd. along the Saryu River, spread across 165 hectares, is currently meeting 25–30% of Ayodhya’s total power demand. This has positioned the city as a pioneering model for energy independence and clean power usage under the UP Solar Energy Policy 2022.
Greenfield Township to Shape the ‘New Ayodhya’
The ambitious Greenfield Township—one of UP’s most futuristic urban projects—is emerging over 550 acres. Developed under the ‘Navya Ayodhya’ vision, it balances modern urban amenities with eco-friendly design.

Key features include:
- Underground drainage and electrical ducts worth ₹218 crore
- A 200-acre green zone
- Super-specialty medical centre
- High-tech park and wellness hub
The township aims to create a sustainable, resilient, and smart urban habitat for residents and tourists.
Boost to Renewable Energy and EV Infrastructure
Ayodhya Development Authority has launched a Green Fund to support ecological initiatives. Under this, 15,000 saplings will be planted at 75 locations using the Miyawaki technique. EV adoption is receiving strong support, with Tata Power, Reliance, and Adani collaborating to set up 13 EV charging stations, out of which 10 are already operational.
These efforts highlight Ayodhya’s emergence as a leading centre of renewable energy and sustainable urban planning.
With massive investments in security, solar energy, green mobility, cultural preservation, and world-class civic amenities, Ayodhya is setting new benchmarks in smart city development. The ancient spiritual city is now stepping confidently into the future—emerging as a global symbol of faith, innovation, and sustainable progress.
