Lucknow – The launch of the Axiom-4 mission, which will carry Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla and three other crew members to the International Space Station, has been postponed until June 11 due to unfavorable weather conditions. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) confirmed the delay on Monday. The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket was originally scheduled to launch on Tuesday evening from Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida.
ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan stated, “The launch of the Axiom-4 mission has been postponed from June 10, 2025, to June 11, 2025, for the Indian space-priest to be sent to the International Space Station due to weather conditions. The targeted launch time is June 11, 2025, at 5:30 AM IST.”
The Axiom-4 mission marks a significant milestone in India’s space journey. Shubhanshu Shukla will become the first Indian to travel to space in four decades, following in the footsteps of Rakesh Sharma, who flew aboard a Soviet spacecraft in 1984. This mission represents a historic moment for India as it prepares to send its first astronaut of Indian origin into space via a private mission led by Axiom Space.
Initially, this mission was slated for May 29 but was postponed due to some technical glitches, with June 10 then set as the new launch date. The central government has allocated ₹550 crore for India’s participation in the Axiom-4 mission.
