Lucknow | Sarojini Nagar constituency on Friday marked a major milestone in Uttar Pradesh’s industrial and green mobility journey with the inauguration of the state’s first electric bus manufacturing plant by Ashok Leyland. The state-of-the-art EV facility was inaugurated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the presence of Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy.
Speaking on the occasion, Sarojini Nagar MLA Dr Rajeshwar Singh expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, describing the project as a defining moment in Uttar Pradesh’s industrial history. He said the establishment of the electric bus plant reflects the Chief Minister’s far-sighted leadership, strong political will, and investor-friendly governance model.

Dr Singh said that Uttar Pradesh, once perceived as a state witnessing industrial migration, has now emerged as a national hub for green mobility, high-tech manufacturing and the Make in India initiative under the leadership of CM Yogi Adityanath. The Ashok Leyland EV bus factory in Sarojini Nagar, he added, stands as a live example of this transformation.
Highlighting the scale of the project, the MLA said the plant has been set up with an investment exceeding ₹1,000 crore. In its initial phase, the facility is expected to manufacture 2,500 electric buses annually, with plans to expand production capacity to 5,000 buses in the coming years. He said this signals Uttar Pradesh’s shift from being primarily a consumption-driven economy to becoming a production and export-oriented state.
Dr Rajeshwar Singh credited the Yogi government’s fast decision-making process, transparent administration, and robust investment protection mechanisms for attracting global companies to the state. He also referred to policies such as front-end land subsidies as key enablers in building investor confidence.

The MLA noted that the plant has been established on the 70-acre land of the former Scooter India facility, calling it a strong example of the government’s vision to convert underutilised assets into productive industrial hubs. The project is expected to generate over 1,000 direct jobs and thousands of indirect and self-employment opportunities for local youth.
Dr Singh said the EV plant would promote clean transportation, reduce carbon emissions, and create technology-driven employment opportunities for future generations. He expressed confidence that Uttar Pradesh would emerge as a driving force of India’s electric vehicle revolution under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s leadership.
Concluding his remarks, Dr Rajeshwar Singh said the Sarojini Nagar EV factory is not just an industrial achievement but a foundation stone for a future where development, environmental protection and self-reliance progress together.
