Lucknow: The 77th Army Day was celebrated with great reverence in Lucknow, honoring the valiant soldiers who sacrificed their all for the nation. A solemn wreath-laying ceremony was held at the “Smritika” War Memorial in the Surya Command Cantonment. Lieutenant General Anindya Sengupta, Army Commander of Surya Command, paid floral tributes to the fallen heroes who gave their lives in service to the nation. Senior military personnel from the station were also present during the ceremony.
Additionally, commemorative events were organized at various locations under the Surya Command’s jurisdiction. Army Day marks the historic occasion on January 15, 1949, when General K.M. Cariappa, later promoted to Field Marshal, became the first Commander-in-Chief of independent India’s Army, succeeding General Sir F.R.R. Bucher, the last British Commander-in-Chief.

Continuing the tradition of holding the Army Day Parade across different locations, last year’s parade was held in Lucknow, while this year, it is being hosted in Pune, Maharashtra.
