Anganwadi Workers Felicitated on International Women’s Day; Free Health Check-up Camp Organised

Lucknow: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Anganwadi workers were felicitated for their dedicated service to early childhood care and community development at a programme held in the city on Friday. The event also featured a free health check-up camp for the workers.

The programme was organised by Sesame Workshop India Trust with the support of Marico Limited under the CSR initiative Nihar Shanti Pathshala Funwala.

The Chief Guest, Leena Johri, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Women and Child Development, felicitated the Anganwadi workers for their outstanding contributions. Addressing the gathering, Johri highlighted the crucial role played by Anganwadi workers in strengthening children’s health, nutrition, and early education, particularly in rural communities. She said Anganwadi workers form the backbone of various health and nutrition programmes and the occasion was an opportunity to recognise and celebrate their invaluable service.

Sonali Khan, Managing Trustee of Sesame Workshop India Trust, said the organisation is implementing an Early Childhood Development programme in Bahraich in collaboration with Anganwadi workers. As part of the initiative, efforts are underway to strengthen Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) across 100 Anganwadi centres in the district. She noted that with continued support from the government and development partners, the quality of early childhood education in Anganwadi centres can be further enhanced.

During the programme, 30 Anganwadi workers from Bahraich district were honoured for their exemplary work in promoting pre-school education, encouraging parental participation, and supporting the holistic development of young children. The workers also shared their field experiences and insights during the event.

A stall showcasing locally developed learning materials for children was also set up at the venue. In addition, a free health check-up camp was organised for the Anganwadi workers, where participants underwent health screenings.

Among those present on the occasion were Seraj Ahmad, Deputy Director; Satya Naidu, CSR Manager at Marico Limited; and Vimal Singh, CDPO, Huzoorpur.

The initiative marks a significant step toward strengthening early childhood education at Anganwadi centres while building stronger community engagement through collaboration between government agencies and development partners.
