Lucknow– A school-based anemia awareness program was successfully conducted at the Golf City campus of City Montessori School, Lucknow, aiming to educate young students about anemia, its impact, and ways to prevent it. The session was led by Dr. Shalini Bhasin, who provided valuable insights into this prevalent health issue.
The program saw enthusiastic participation from 350 students of classes 6, 7, and 8, along with 12 teachers who actively engaged in the discussions. The initiative focused on spreading awareness about anemia, a condition caused by a deficiency of red blood cells or hemoglobin, leading to fatigue, weakness, and other health complications.
Dr. Bhasin explained the fundamental aspects of anemia, emphasizing its causes, symptoms, and the importance of early diagnosis. The students were informed about iron-rich dietary sources, including green leafy vegetables, pulses, whole grains, nuts, and fruits such as pomegranates and apples, which play a crucial role in preventing anemia. Special emphasis was laid on the importance of biannual deworming as a preventive measure to enhance nutrient absorption and overall well-being.
The students took a pledge to maintain their own health and also spread awareness among their families, ensuring a more informed community. The session also highlighted the role of teachers in promoting healthy eating habits. The attending teachers committed to monitoring the nutritional value of students’ tiffin boxes, ensuring that children bring balanced and iron-rich meals to school.
Adding a creative element to the initiative, a slogan competition on anemia awareness was also announced. Students will submit their slogans in the coming days, encouraging them to reflect on and express their understanding of anemia through impactful messaging.
The anemia awareness program was a significant step in equipping young minds with the knowledge and motivation to lead healthier lives. With the combined efforts of students, teachers, and health experts, this initiative is expected to foster a more health-conscious school environment and contribute towards reducing the prevalence of anemia among children.
