Amity University Marks World Environment Day with Plantation Drive

Lucknow – Amity University, Lucknow Campus, celebrated World Environment Day 2025 by launching a significant plantation drive on campus, sending out a strong message of environmental responsibility and green action. The initiative was led by Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Anil Vashisht, who personally planted saplings and urged everyone to nurture nature so that future generations may inherit a healthier, greener planet.

Organized by the Eco Club, Department of Student Welfare, and the Amity School of Applied Sciences (ASAS), the plantation campaign saw enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and staff. The event aimed to instill a sense of ecological stewardship among the university community and promote practical environmental action.
On this occasion, Wg. Cdr. Prof. (Dr.) Anil Kumar, Deputy Pro VC; Dr. Rajeev Verma, Dean Student Welfare; Prof. Dr. Rajesh Tiwari, Dean Academics; Prof. (Dr.) Asita Kulshreshtha, Head of ASAS; along with all Heads of Institutes and Departments, faculty members, and students actively participated in the plantation drive.

In addition to the on-ground activity, a national-level virtual workshop was conducted on the theme “Emerging Technologies for Plastic Waste Detection and Cleanup”, in collaboration with the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. The workshop attracted around 95 participants including students, faculty, and staff from across the country.

The workshop was inaugurated by  Safi Ahsan Rizvi, IPS, Executive Director, NIDM. Keynote addresses were delivered by eminent environmental experts, including Dr. Papiya Mandal (CSIR-NEERI), who spoke on Plastic Waste to Energy: Environmental and Economic Trade-Offs; Dr. Ravinder Singh (NIDM) on Solid Waste Management and Mission LiFE; Dr. Rajeev Pratap Singh (BHU) on Plastic Pollution: Challenges, Threats and Opportunities; and Dr. Ashutosh Kumar (Thapar Institute) on Trash to Treasure: Technological Innovations in Plastic Waste Management.

The plantation drive and overall coordination were led by Dr. Upasana Yadav, Faculty Coordinator of the Eco Club, with valuable support from Mr. Nikhil Kumar, Mr. Kuldeep Singh, and the Department of Student Welfare team. Dr. Yadav also delivered a vote of thanks.

The event stands as a testament to Amity University’s commitment to environmental sustainability and its proactive approach in engaging the youth with ecological and scientific issues of national importance.
