Amity University honors 29 Exceptional Talents on National Girl Child Day

Lucknow: Demonstrating its commitment to women’s empowerment, gender equality, and respect for women, Amity University, Lucknow Campus, under the aegis of the Dean of Student Welfare and the “Asha Club,” organized a program titled “Ananta” on the occasion of National Girl Child Day. The event, held in collaboration with the NGO Help-You Educational and Charitable Trust, honored 29 exceptional girls from the city who are striving to bring about positive change in society.

The program was inaugurated by lighting a ceremonial lamp by Padma Shri awardee and renowned writer Vidya Bindu Singh and  Babita Chauhan, Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh State Women’s Commission, as chief guests. The event was graced by the presence of Wing Commander Dr. Anil Kumar Tiwari, Deputy Pro-Vice Chancellor, Amity University Lucknow Campus; Professor Manju Agarwal, Dean of Student Welfare; Dr. Rupal Agarwal, Trustee of Help-You Trust; Dr. Prachi Srivastava, Coordinator of Asha Club; and department heads of various disciplines.

Addressing the audience, Padma Vidya Bindu Singh emphasized the importance of balancing traditional values with modern needs for the development of girls. She noted how ancient Indian texts highlight the strength and influence of women in shaping economic and social policies and suggested that empowering women today would ensure India’s holistic progress.

Babita Chauhan, in her speech, highlighted the success of the government’s “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” campaign. She encouraged the students to use education as a powerful tool to empower girls. She urged them to aim for greatness, drawing inspiration from Swami Vivekananda, and to include societal welfare as a key life goal.
Professor Manju Agarwal, Dean of Student Welfare, welcomed the guests with a heartfelt poetic note:
“Rakho hausla woh manzar bhi aayega,
Pyaase ke paas chalkar samandar bhi aayega”

(Keep up your courage; the moment will come when even the ocean will come to the thirsty.)
She stressed the importance of education and economic independence for the growth of women and encouraged giving girls equal opportunities to thrive and succeed.

Dr. Rupal Agarwal, Chairperson of Help-You Trust, called for eliminating gender bias in raising children to enable women to emerge as empowered individuals in society.

The event also included a reels competition centered on Girl Child Day, where students created and showcased thought-provoking short videos. A cultural program featuring performances by students was also part of the celebrations.
