Lucknow: Rajasthan’s Amit and Haryana’s Upnishad Bhardwaj delivered stunning performances to upset seeded opponents and advance to the quarterfinals on the second day of the Swarup Agrawal Memorial AITA Men’s Prize Money Tennis Tournament.
The ₹1 lakh prize money event, sponsored by India Pesticides Limited, is being organized by SDS Tennis Academy at the La Martiniere Lawn Tennis Facility.
Major Upsets in Pre-Quarterfinals
Qualifier Amit produced a commanding display to defeat sixth seed Anshuman Singh of Uttar Pradesh 6-2, 6-3, using precise shot-making and consistent pressure to dominate the match.
In another upset, Upnishad Bhardwaj overcame third seed Sarthak Gulati of West Bengal 6-4, 6-2, showing composure and tactical superiority.
Other Key Matches
Haryana’s Vansh Nandal fought back strongly to defeat Uttar Pradesh’s Rishi Yadav 5-7, 6-4, 6-2. After dropping the first set, Nandal adjusted his strategy and controlled the next two sets.
Second seed Mukil Ramanan of Tamil Nadu rallied from a set down to beat Vansh Yadav 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Top seed Mayank Sharma of Delhi advanced comfortably, defeating Haryana’s Harsh Malik 6-2, 6-3. Meanwhile, qualifier Sunil Kumar of Haryana edged past local player Chinmay Dev Chauhan 7-6(6), 6-2 to move into the next round.
Doubles Action Begins
The men’s doubles event also commenced with several exciting matches. Notable winners advancing to the quarterfinals included Lav Pehal and Jasraj Singh, Upnishad Bhardwaj and Saurabh Singh, Vansh Nandal and Mayank Sharma, Parth Patil and A. Ohlayan, and Amit with Parth Sarathi Sharma.
Talent Hunt Tournament
In the Swarup Agrawal Prize Money Talent Hunt Tennis Tournament, Avyan Jain clinched the boys’ under-10 title, defeating Avyansh Pathak 4-2.
It is noteworthy that the AITA Men’s Prize Money Tournament and the Talent Hunt Tournament are separate competitions, offering prize purses of ₹1 lakh and ₹1.5 lakh respectively.
The tournament continues to deliver high-intensity matches and emerging talent in Lucknow.
