Alarm Raised as Young Adults Face Rising Heart Attack Risk at Medanta Seminar, Lucknow

Lucknow: A recent seminar at Medanta Hospital has highlighted a worrying trend: an increasing number of heart attack patients are under the age of 40. Experts revealed that one in five heart attack cases now involves young adults, challenging the perception that cardiovascular disease primarily affects older individuals.

Titled ‘Young Hearts at Risk’, the seminar focused on lifestyle-related factors contributing to this rise. Doctors pointed to sedentary habits, obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, stress, and smoking as key drivers of early-onset heart disease. They stressed that the combination of these risks significantly increases the likelihood of cardiac events in younger populations.

The event also showcased Medanta’s advanced cardiac care capabilities, including complex angioplasty, stenting, Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), and robotic surgery. Dr Praveen K. Goyal highlighted TAVI as a minimally invasive, safe alternative to open-heart surgery for high-risk patients, while Dr Gauranga Majumdar demonstrated the precision and benefits of robotic-assisted Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG).

Doctors S.K. Dwivedi and Himanshu Gupta shared challenging cases involving angioplasty and stenting complicated by pre-existing conditions such as strokes and gastric issues. The seminar concluded with crucial advice for people over 40: undergo comprehensive health screenings—including blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes checks, and treadmill stress tests—before engaging in intensive physical activity.

Other notable attendees included Dr Avdhesh Dwivedi, Dr Vineeta, and Dr Abhishek, who provided additional insights into preventive care and modern cardiac interventions.
