Akhilesh Yadav Slams UP Government Over Power Crisis, Alleges Widespread Corruption and Mismanagement

“No electricity, only soaring bills; BJP has darkened Uttar Pradesh’s future,” says SP chief

Lucknow — Samajwadi Party (SP) National President and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav launched a scathing attack on the ruling BJP government in Uttar Pradesh, accusing it of complete mismanagement and corruption in the state’s power sector. Speaking at a press briefing, Yadav claimed that the state’s electricity system is in shambles, and public frustration is rising amid frequent outages and skyrocketing electricity bills.

“The transformer of the Uttar Pradesh power department has exploded. The connection between ministers and officials has snapped, and the people’s faith in the government has collapsed,” said Yadav, using a powerful metaphor to describe the current state of affairs. “The meter of public anger is rising rapidly while production is stalled, communication is broken, and corruption continues unabated under the guise of power distribution,” he added.

Yadav alleged that despite the growing demand, the BJP-led government has failed to add a single new unit of electricity generation during its tenure. “Whatever electricity the state is receiving today is being produced by power plants set up during the Samajwadi Party government,” he said, claiming that the BJP has not established any new power house in its nine years in office.

He further criticized the government for issuing inflated power bills without supplying consistent electricity. “There is no electricity, only electricity bills — and these unjustified bills are burning a hole in people’s pockets,” Yadav stated. He blamed the BJP for dismantling the reforms and infrastructure improvements introduced under the previous SP government.

Highlighting the widespread nature of the crisis, Yadav said the power shortage has crippled not only rural areas and small towns but also major cities and district headquarters, including the state capital Lucknow, where long and frequent power cuts have disrupted daily life. “When people in Lucknow are forced to protest outside substations for electricity, one can only imagine the plight of those in the districts and rural belts,” he remarked.

He also alleged rampant corruption in the electricity department, where, under the pretense of checking connections, farmers, traders, and ordinary citizens are being extorted. “BJP has broken all records of corruption in the state,” he said, pointing to multiple instances of public backlash, including the gherao of the Power Minister at several locations.

Yadav warned that public dissatisfaction is reaching its peak and claimed that the BJP’s so-called ‘double engine’ government has completely failed to deliver on basic promises like power supply. “People have realized that the BJP cannot provide light — only darkness and burden. The message from Uttar Pradesh is clear: BJP must go for brightness to return,” he concluded.

The sharp criticism from the SP chief comes amid mounting complaints across the state over erratic power supply, especially during peak monsoon months when electricity is crucial for irrigation, small businesses, students, and households.
