Lucknow, October 6 — Samajwadi Party National President and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav strongly criticized the ruling BJP government, accusing it of betraying and neglecting the interests of farmers. Yadav said that ever since the BJP came to power, farmers have been struggling to get timely access to fertilizers and seeds, while inflation has made cultivation costlier without corresponding returns.
“The BJP government has failed to provide farmers with fertilizers like DAP and urea on time. Farmers were forced to stand in long queues, and in several places, police lathi-charged them. Some even lost their lives waiting, but the insensitive government remained silent,” Yadav said in a statement issued on Sunday.
The former Chief Minister alleged that the government had no preparation to meet the current demand for fertilizers needed for crops like wheat, potatoes, chickpeas, and peas. “The government is asleep while black marketing and profiteering are at their peak,” he remarked.
Yadav further added that the farming community, despite its hard work, is not even able to recover production costs. “Potato, sugarcane, paddy, and wheat farmers are not getting fair prices. The BJP has deceived farmers with false promises. Their income has not doubled as claimed,” he said, accusing the government of ignoring sugarcane price issues and leaving potato farmers at a loss.
“The middlemen are thriving, while the farmers who toil day and night are being exploited,” Yadav asserted, adding that the BJP’s policies have led to widespread distress in the rural sector.
Concluding his statement, Yadav said that farmers across Uttar Pradesh feel cheated and disheartened by the government’s apathy. “In the 2027 Assembly elections, the farmers will ensure the BJP is voted out of power to avenge the betrayal and humiliation they have suffered,” he declared.
