AIIMS Raebareli Organizes Free Cervical and Breast Cancer Screening and Awareness Camp

Raebareli — The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at AIIMS Raebareli successfully conducted a free cervical and breast cancer screening and awareness camp, aimed at promoting early detection and spreading awareness about two of the most common cancers affecting women in India.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from faculty members, nursing officers, hospital staff, and their families. A large number of women availed themselves of the free screening services during the camp.

Dr. Vandana Verma, Head of the Department, highlighted the importance of preventive healthcare in combating cervical cancer. She stressed the need for regular check-ups, HPV vaccination, and awareness about early warning signs. Applauding the team’s collaborative effort, she encouraged similar initiatives in the future.

Dr. Parul Sinha shed light on the epidemiology and burden of cervical cancer in India, particularly in rural and underserved areas. She emphasized the effectiveness of Pap smears and VIA (Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid) in early diagnosis and dispelled common myths related to gynecological health.

Dr. Banshree Nath addressed the emotional and psychological impact of a cancer diagnosis, underlining the need for compassionate care and counseling throughout the screening and treatment journey.

In an informative session, Assistant Professor of General Surgery Dr. Raunak spoke on breast cancer awareness, covering risk factors, self-examination techniques, and the critical role of mammography in early detection.

The program marked a significant step toward proactive and preventive women’s healthcare and reinforced the importance of community participation in promoting health literacy.
