Ahead of Polls, Mayawati Appeals to Muslim Voters: “Support BSP to Stop BJP”

LucknowIn a significant political statement ahead of the upcoming elections, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati  appealed to the Muslim community to unite in support of the BSP rather than the Samajwadi Party (SP) or the Congress, asserting that only the BSP can effectively counter the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Chairing a special meeting of the “BSP Muslim Samaj Bhaichara Sangathan” in Lucknow, Mayawati said that past elections have shown that despite strong Muslim backing, neither SP nor Congress has succeeded in defeating the BJP. “In the 2022 Assembly elections and those before it, Muslims extended overwhelming support to SP and Congress, yet they failed to stop the BJP. In contrast, when the BSP received limited Muslim support, it succeeded in defeating the BJP and formed a majority government in 2007,” she said.

The former Chief Minister accused both SP and Congress of historically engaging in “anti-Dalit, anti-backward and anti-Muslim politics.” She alleged that their policies and political conduct had directly enabled the BJP’s rise in Uttar Pradesh. “These parties have never genuinely fought the BJP. Instead, they have consistently conspired to weaken the BSP through deceitful tactics,” Mayawati remarked, adding that the Muslim community must recognize this political reality at the earliest.

Recalling her tenure as Chief Minister, Mayawati said, “The BSP government ensured real welfare for Muslims by guaranteeing them safety, dignity, and fair representation at every level. We maintained law and order, protected lives, property, and religious freedom, and curbed communalism and caste-based discrimination.” She further added that her government was the first to take a tough stance against injustice, lawlessness, and crime, ensuring justice for victims without bias.

“Under BSP rule, Uttar Pradesh was free from riots, oppression, and fear, unlike other parties whose lofty promises were never matched by action,” she asserted.

Highlighting the inclusive vision of her party, Mayawati stated, “Dalits, tribals, backward classes, Muslims, and other religious minorities are integral parts of the Bahujan Samaj. The BSP’s mission is to empower these marginalized communities politically and socially, ensuring that they live with dignity and self-respect as envisaged by the Constitution.”

The meeting was attended by office bearers of the BSP’s Muslim Bhaichara Sangathan, as well as the party’s state president, divisional in-charges, and district presidents. Discussions also covered the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls, with Mayawati instructing party workers to ensure no eligible voter’s name is omitted from the list.

She directed party cadres to assist those whose names are missing from the voter rolls by helping them complete the required forms and submit necessary documents. Concluding the meeting, Mayawati reiterated that the unity of Muslims with Dalits and backward classes under the BSP banner was the only way to “safeguard India’s secular and constitutional values” and “halt the BJP’s divisive politics.”
