Lucknow: The Pain and Palliative Care Clinic at SGPGIMS successfully restored mobility and relieved chronic pain for a 51-year-old woman from Deoria, Suman Pandey, who had been suffering from severe shoulder and arm pain for several months. Her condition, diagnosed as adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder), had significantly restricted her daily activities.
After routine treatments failed to offer relief, Pandey was admitted for advanced pain management. Under the supervision of Prof. Sujeet Gautam and his team, she underwent Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy, a regenerative treatment that reduces inflammation and supports tissue healing. The therapy was complemented with targeted range-of-motion and strengthening exercises.
The patient achieved marked improvement, with substantial pain reduction, better shoulder mobility, and an overall enhancement in quality of life.
Frozen shoulder is commonly seen in individuals with diabetes but may also occur after trauma or other painful conditions. PRP therapy has proven highly beneficial, with the Pain Clinic at SGPGIMS successfully treating over 50 such patients in the past year.

The Pain and Palliative Care team emphasizes that their services provide active, evidence-based medical care focused on restoring comfort, function, and mobility—far beyond the misconception of being a last-resort option.
Patients suffering from persistent or hard-to-control pain are encouraged to seek expert evaluation at the Pain and Palliative Care Clinic, SGPGIMS. OPD services are available daily in D Block, Ground Floor, Naveen OPD, SGPGIMS.
