Adequate Fertilizer Supply Ensured for Kharif Season in Uttar Pradesh: Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi

Lucknow — Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi assured farmers that adequate quantities of fertilizers are being made available for the ongoing Kharif season. He said that the state government, in constant coordination with the Government of India, has ensured smooth supply of urea, DAP, and NPK fertilizers to meet farmers’ requirements after sowing and transplanting.

Between August 1 and 24, 2025, the Centre dispatched 268 rakes of urea to the state, of which 223 rakes have already been received and the remaining 45 rakes are en route, expected to reach districts within the next 3–4 days. On August 24 and 25, 20 additional rakes were dispatched to districts including Ayodhya, Jaunpur, Gonda, Prayagraj, Barabanki, Rae Bareli, Bijnor, Muzaffarnagar, Balrampur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Sultanpur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Amethi, Mirzapur, and Varanasi.

The Minister highlighted that 10–12 rakes of urea are being sent daily in line with farmers’ consumption patterns. He appealed to farmers not to get confused by fertilizer brand names, pointing out that all bags carry standard labels such as Bharat Urea or Bharat DAP. Farmers were also urged not to stockpile fertilizers in advance, so that supplies remain available to all as per need.

Currently, Uttar Pradesh has fertilizer stocks of 5.73 lakh metric tonnes of urea, 4.07 lakh metric tonnes of DAP, and 2.99 lakh metric tonnes of NPK through cooperative and private channels.

To prevent hoarding, black marketing, overpricing, and illegal tagging, strict enforcement drives are being carried out. So far in the current fiscal year, 12,653 raids have been conducted, 3,385 samples collected, and 10,471 samples analyzed. This has led to 35 substandard samples detected, 122 warnings issued, sales suspended at 15 outlets, sealing of 12 shops, 1,196 licenses cancelled, 571 licenses suspended, and 111 FIRs registered, resulting in the imprisonment of 11 individuals.

Minister Shahi reiterated that fertilizers will be provided strictly at the government-approved Maximum Retail Price (MRP). Any company or wholesaler found indulging in illegal practices will face strict action, he warned.
