Lucknow: A joint team of the Crime Unit (Eastern Zone) and Ghazipur Police Station successfully arrested an accused involved in a ₹14 lakh fraud case, where the victim was lured on the pretext of being shown a piece of land.
According to police officials, the complainant, Vishwajeet Singh, a resident of Gorakhpur, had arrived in Lucknow on March 27 to purchase land. He was allegedly called near a café in Indira Nagar by the accused persons, who fled with a bag containing ₹14 lakh after deceiving him.
Based on the complaint, a case (FIR No. 110/2026) was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). During investigation, the case was modified to include stricter charges, and the involvement of multiple accused came to light.
Acting on a tip-off, the police apprehended the accused, Srijan Pandey (22), a resident of Gomti Nagar, near Polytechnic Chauraha on Faizabad Road while he was allegedly attempting to flee. A sum of ₹1.5 lakh, believed to be his share of the looted amount, was recovered from his possession.

During interrogation, the accused confessed that he, along with accomplices, executed the crime by arriving in two vehicles and forcibly taking away the cash-filled bag from the victim. The total amount of ₹14 lakh was later divided among the group members.
Police have added further charges under the BNS based on the recovery and are actively searching for the remaining accused involved in the case. Legal proceedings against the arrested accused are underway, and efforts are being made to ascertain his criminal history.
The arrest marks a significant breakthrough for the Lucknow Police Commissionerate in cracking down on organised fraud and robbery cases in the city.
