Gonda: In a major action against corruption, the Kotwali Nagar Police in Gonda arrested an accused in connection with alleged fraud and bribery in a government tender case, officials said.
The arrest was made as part of an ongoing campaign against crime and criminals being carried out under the orders of Superintendent of Police Vineet Jaiswal. The operation was conducted under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police (East) Manoj Kumar Rawat and led by Circle Officer (City) Vinay Kumar Singh.
The accused, identified as Vidyabhushan Mishra, was arrested from his office at the District Basic Education Officer premises in Gonda. He was posted as District Coordinator (Civil).
According to police, the case was registered on November 4, 2025, following orders from a special anti-corruption court in Gorakhpur. The complainant, Manoj Pandey, alleged that after his firm was selected through the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal for furniture supply in the Basic Education Department, he was asked to pay an illegal amount of around ₹50 lakh by officials, including the then Basic Education Officer and other coordinators.

The complaint further stated that despite partial payment, continuous pressure was exerted for the remaining amount, along with threats of tender cancellation and blacklisting of the firm. It was also alleged that part of the money was later returned, but a significant amount remained unpaid, and the complainant faced harassment and misconduct.
During the investigation, sufficient evidence was found against Mishra, leading to his arrest on March 18, 2026. He has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Police said the accused has been sent to court after completing legal formalities, and further investigation into the case is ongoing.
