Abhishek’s Blistering Half-Century Guides India to Six-Wicket Win Over Pakistan in Super 4s

New Delhi: India secured a commanding six-wicket victory over Pakistan in the Super 4 stage of the T20 Asia Cup in Dubai, powered by a fiery half-century from left-handed opener Abhishek Sharma and a century-opening partnership with Shubman Gill. This win further cemented India’s dominance over their long-time rivals and brought them closer to a place in the final.

Pakistan, batting first, posted a competitive 171/5 in 20 overs, anchored by Sahibzada Farhan’s 58 and a 72-run second-wicket stand with Sam Ayub (21). Lower-order contributions from Faheem Ashraf (20)* and captain Salman Aga (22)* helped Pakistan reach a respectable total. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah conceded 45 runs in four overs, while medium-pacer Shivam Dube took 2/33.

Chasing, India’s response was powered by Abhishek Sharma’s 74 off 39 balls, featuring five sixes and six fours, and Shubman Gill’s 47 off 28 balls. Their 105-run opening partnership in just 9.4 overs set the foundation for a dominant chase. Later, Tilak Varma (30)* provided crucial support, guiding India to 174/5 in 18.5 overs, with seven balls to spare.

Abhishek, named Man of the Match, credited his aggressive approach and partnership with Shubman for the victory: “I have known Shubman since school days, and I was waiting for a partnership like this. I aimed to counter Pakistan’s bowling with aggression, which helped the team maintain momentum.”

India’s bowlers, particularly Shivam Dube and spinners, executed their plans brilliantly, taking key wickets at crucial stages. Despite some dropped catches early on, India managed to control the game after the first powerplay.

The win marked India’s consecutive victory over Pakistan in Dubai, highlighting their consistency and depth in the T20 format ahead of the tournament’s final stages.
