AAP to Hold Statewide Protests on June 18 Against Power Cuts in Uttar Pradesh: Sanjay Singh

Lucknow: In a sharp attack on the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government over prolonged power outages amid an intense heatwave, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) UP in-charge and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh on Monday announced a statewide protest across all district headquarters on June 18.

Addressing a press conference in Lucknow, Singh declared that AAP workers and supporters will stage demonstrations in every district of Uttar Pradesh to voice the grievances of citizens reeling under erratic and insufficient power supply. He demanded that the state government immediately ensure 24-hour uninterrupted electricity to the people.

“The public is suffering due to power cuts lasting 12 to 13 hours every day in this blistering heat. Life has come to a standstill, and yet the government remains indifferent,” Singh said. He further added, “Electricity is becoming increasingly expensive, and despite this, people are facing severe shortages. The situation is intolerable for both ordinary citizens and farmers.”

Singh urged the people of the state to join the June 18 protest and hold the government accountable. He emphasized that the protest will be peaceful but firm in demanding justice for the residents of Uttar Pradesh.

AAP’s protest call comes at a time when several regions across UP have been experiencing severe heatwave conditions, with daily temperatures crossing 45°C, and unscheduled power cuts worsening the crisis. Residents in both urban and rural areas have raised concerns over failing transformers, low voltage, and lack of proper electricity during crucial hours.

As the issue of electricity supply becomes increasingly political, AAP aims to position itself as a voice for the people, with Sanjay Singh stating, “This is not just a political issue—it’s a humanitarian one. We will not sit quietly while people suffer.”

The Aam Aadmi Party, which governhas governed Delhi and Punjab, has frequently highlighted its record of free and reliable power supply in those states and is now seeking to build momentum in Uttar Pradesh by raising local issues.

The Uttar Pradesh government has yet to issue an official response to AAP’s statewide protest call.
