A two-day Bougainvillea Festival started at CSIR-NBRI

Lucknow: A two-day Bougainville Festival being organized by CSIR-NBRI Lucknow during 14-15 March 2026, was inaugurated today. Shri NKS Chauhan, OSD, Chief Minister Officer, Lucknow in presence of Prof. Sunil Kumar Singh, Director, CSIR-NIO, Goa inaugurated the show on 14 March 2026 at Botanic Garden, CSIR-NBRI.

This festival is a significant annual event initiated by CSIR-NBRI in 2022. Within a short span of time, it has established itself as a popular platform among garden enthusiasts, researchers, students, and the general public.
Dr. KJ Singh, Convener of the Festival informed that like previous year we have also opened this exhibition among general public/government/private organizations for participation in various competition of the show. A total number of 64 exhibitors participated in the show with 209 entries. The competition in the festival was organized in 20 categories.

More than 300 various varieties of Bougainvillea conserved by the institute like ‘Begum Sikander’; ‘Shubhra’; ‘Dr. B. P. Pal’; ‘Arjuna’; ‘Archana’; ‘Mary Palmer Special’; ‘Los Banos Variegata’; ‘Aruna’; ‘Dr. P. V. Sane’ are on display in the festival.

Besides a sperate stall for CSIR Floriculture Mission was also set up for information on various initiatives of the mission including ornamental floriculture, dehydrated floral crafts technology and other activities.

The festival will conclude on 15 March 2026 with prize distribution ceremony. Smt. Anandiben Patel, Hon’ble Governor of Uttar Pradesh will be the chief guest of the prize distribution function.

This festival will remain open on 15 March 2026 from 10:30 AM to 05:30 PM. The Bougainvillea plants in various colours were also kept for sale for the general public
