New Delhi: A person who followed the rules of society by getting married at the age of 16 and proved his talent by becoming a lecturer at the age of 21. This person is Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, you will be surprised to know the interesting story of his life.
The day celebrated as Teacher’s Day on 5 September is dedicated to the birthday of Dr. Radhakrishnan. Dr. Radhakrishnan was a great educationist and former President of India. He was born on 5 September 1888 in Tirutani, Tamil Nadu. His father Veer Samaiya Tehsildar belonged to a middle-class Brahmin family, his family’s native village was Sarvepalli. He received primary education in Tirutani. After this, he completed his studies at Lutheran Missionary High School, Tirupati, Voorchas College Vellore and Madras Christian College.
During his education, he did MA in Philosophy, which played an important role in deciding the direction of his life. After this, he got married at the age of 16, but even after marriage, his dreams of education did not break. At the age of 20, he wrote a thesis on ‘Ethics of Vedanta’, which was published in the year 1908.
At the age of just 21, he started teaching as a teacher as a junior lecturer in the Philosophy Department at Madras Presidency College. Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s career was very inspiring. He also made many important contributions in the field of education. After this, he was elected as the second President of India in 1954. From 1952 to 1962, he took over the responsibility of the country as the President of India. After which he was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1954.
Dr. Radhakrishnan’s birth anniversary is celebrated as Teacher’s Day on 5 September. He believed that teachers should get a special place in society and Teacher’s Day keeps this idea alive. His ideals and teachings remain a source of inspiration for students and teachers even today. Even today this day is celebrated as Teacher’s Day in his honor.
