Lucknow: The Hindi and Modern Indian Languages Department of Lucknow University, in collaboration with Bank of Baroda, Lucknow Metro Region, organised the “Meritorious Students Felicitation Ceremony” on Tuesday at the university campus. The event was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Prof. Manuka Khanna, former Head of the Hindi Department Prof. Suryaprasad Dikshit, Bank of Baroda Regional Head Mr Kamlesh Rathour, Chief Manager (Rajbhasha) Ms Anumita Singh, Rajbhasha Officer Ms Nidhi Kumari, and Head of the Hindi Department Prof. Pawan Agrawal.

The programme was conducted in two phases. In the first phase, under “Meritorious Students Felicitation–2025,” Aradhana Mishra and Shashank Pandey, who secured the highest marks in MA Hindi (2025), were honoured.

The second phase featured a symposium on the topic “Employment Opportunities in Rajbhasha Hindi.”

Addressing the inaugural session, Vice Chancellor Prof. Manuka Khanna highlighted the relevance and growing utility of Hindi and lauded Bank of Baroda for undertaking such initiatives, calling them a source of motivation for students.

Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Suryaprasad Dikshit, former Head and Acharya of the Hindi Department, asserted that “a language spoken by one billion people can never remain unemployed.” He emphasised the vast employment potential in Hindi, explaining the diverse dimensions of the language and the expanding role of Rajbhasha. He pointed out opportunities in fields such as translation, interpretation, lexicography, terminology development, Hindi officer roles, and computer-based language applications.

He further underlined that Rajbhasha is an acquired language, not a mother tongue, stressing the need for structured language training and learning to meet official requirements.

Bank of Baroda Regional Head Mr Kamlesh Rathour noted that the use of Hindi has significantly grown even in non-Hindi speaking regions. Sharing his experience from Paris, he mentioned that people there increasingly greet and converse in Hindi. Chief Manager (Rajbhasha) Ms Anumita Singh discussed job prospects associated with Hindi, while Rajbhasha Officer Ms Nidhi Kumari extended a formal welcome on behalf of the bank.

A vote of thanks was proposed by Prof. Pawan Agrawal, Head of the Hindi Department. The programme was coordinated and conducted by Prof. Shruti.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from several Bank of Baroda officials, faculty members of the Hindi Department, and numerous students.
