Lucknow: Good news for the residents of Lucknow! The Jalkal Department of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation has been awarded prestigious ISO certifications for its two major water treatment plants. These international-level certifications are proof that now the people of the city will receive even better quality drinking water — cleaner, safer, and managed to global standards.
What is an ISO Certificate?
ISO stands for International Organization for Standardization. It is a global body that sets standards for the quality, safety, and environmental sustainability of processes and services. When an organization receives ISO certification, it means its work aligns with internationally recognized standards.
Three ISO Certifications for Aishbagh and Kathauta Plants
There are two major water treatment plants in Lucknow — one located in Aishbagh and the other in Kathauta. The Aishbagh plant treats 200 MLD (Million Litres per Day) of drinking water, while the Kathauta plant processes 80 MLD daily.
Both plants have received the following three ISO certifications:
1. ISO 9001:2015 – Quality Management System
This certification assures that all operations at the plant are performed with utmost care and quality. The drinking water provided to citizens is clean and safe for consumption.
2. ISO 14001:2015 – Environmental Management System
This demonstrates that the water purification process is carried out with full environmental responsibility. The plants avoid unnecessary waste and ensure no pollution to air or water occurs.
3. ISO 45001:2018 – Occupational Health and Safety Management System
This ensures that all employees working at the plants are protected and work in a healthy, safe environment. Their well-being is given top priority.
How Will the Public Benefit?
*Executive Engineer Sachin Singh Yadav” stated that these certifications directly benefit the people. They will now receive drinking water that is not only clean but also rigorously tested and verified according to international standards. This will help reduce the risk of waterborne diseases and build public confidence in municipal water supply. Furthermore, the staff working at these plants will now have better safety measures in place.
What Does the Jalkal Department Say?
General Manager of the Jalkal Department, Mr. Kuldeep Singh, expressed pride in receiving these certifications. He emphasized that this recognition means their work is now acknowledged on an international level. He assured that the department will continue to work with the same dedication and standards to ensure the best water supply for the city.
Hon’ble Mayor Mrs. Sushma Kharkwal remarked that ISO certifications are not just pieces of paper — they are a symbol of commitment to quality, environmental responsibility, and safety. She said that it’s a matter of great pride that even in a large and growing city like Lucknow, such high standards are being maintained. She added that providing clean and reliable water is a top priority for the administration and these certifications reflect that commitment.
