Lucknow: A one-day specialised training workshop on scientific investigation and crime scene management was organised by the Lucknow Police Commissionerate on March 10 at the seminar hall of the Reserve Police Lines in Lucknow.
The workshop was conducted by the Commissionerate’s Specialised Training Branch in compliance with directions from the Government of Uttar Pradesh and the Uttar Pradesh Police Headquarters. The training was held under the guidance of Police Commissioner Amrendra Kumar Sengar, Joint Police Commissioner (Crime and Headquarters) Aparna Kumar, Joint Police Commissioner (Law and Order) Bablu Kumar, and Deputy Commissioner of Police Headquarters Anil Kumar Yadav.
Around 70 police personnel participated in the training programme, which focused on the role of scientific evidence in criminal investigation, crime scene protection, and the application of modern forensic techniques. The session was supervised by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Women Crime/Cyber Crime) Soumya Pandey.
The keynote session was delivered by scientific officer Manisha and her team from the Forensic Science Laboratory Lucknow. The experts trained police personnel on identifying different types of crime scenes and procedures for securing them effectively.

A major highlight of the workshop was the explanation of the Locard’s Exchange Principle, which states that “every contact leaves a trace.” Officers were trained to recognise and preserve microscopic physical evidence such as hair, fibres, blood, soil samples, and other trace materials that are crucial for solving criminal cases.
The programme also focused on modern forensic documentation techniques such as scale photography, evidence marking, and effective videography to assist in accurate crime scene reconstruction. Experts emphasised that proper documentation and preservation of scientific evidence significantly strengthen investigations and improve the chances of conviction in courts.
Officials said the training will enhance the technical capabilities of police personnel, enabling them to handle crime scenes more professionally and ensure accurate evidence collection. The initiative reflects the Lucknow Police’s commitment to adopting scientific methods in criminal investigations to improve the quality of investigations and strengthen the justice delivery system.
