Scorching Heat Hits Uttar Pradesh: Several Districts Cross 33°C, Fatehpur Records Highest Temperature

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh is experiencing an early surge of summer heat as temperatures climb across the state. With the sun blazing, residents felt the intensity of the warmth, signaling the onset of the hot season.

On Monday, Jhansi recorded the highest temperature in the state at 34.8°C, followed closely by Fatehpur at 34.6°C. Other major cities also reported high readings: Varanasi at 33.6°C, Hamirpur at 33.2°C, and Agra at 33°C. More than 25 districts in the state saw maximum temperatures surpass 30°C.

The rise in heat coincided with the full moon of Falgun, bringing dry western winds—locally called Fagunhat—blowing at around 30 km/h in Lucknow and other parts of the state. According to senior scientist Atul Kumar Singh of the Regional Meteorological Centre, wind speeds may increase to 35 km/h on Tuesday, and temperatures are expected to rise by approximately 3°C next week, intensifying the heat further.

Heat Expected to Intensify as Winds Subside

The city experienced sweltering sun during the day, causing discomfort to residents. Monday saw dry westerly winds blowing at 30 km/h, which are forecast to strengthen slightly on Tuesday. Meteorologists warn that once these winds ease, temperatures could rise sharply, making the heat feel more severe.

Atul Kumar Singh noted that both day and night temperatures are likely to increase gradually. On Monday, the maximum temperature in Lucknow was recorded at 31.4°C—a slight drop of 1.1°C compared to the previous day—while the minimum temperature fell by 1.4°C to 14.6°C. The heatwave trend is expected to intensify in the coming days as seasonal transition accelerates.

Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged sun exposure, and take necessary precautions against the rising heat.
