Lucknow: The Department of Anthropology, National PG College, Lucknow, organized various academic and cultural programmes on the occasion of “World Anthropology Day” on February 19, 2026. The objective of the event was to create awareness among students about the importance of anthropology, indigenous knowledge systems, and Indian traditional knowledge traditions.
The Principal of the college, Prof. Devendra Kumar Singh, addressed the students and emphasized that the Indian traditional knowledge system can serve as an important foundation for global human welfare. He encouraged the youth to understand this knowledge tradition and actively contribute to its preservation and promotion.
On this occasion, the Head of the Department of Anthropology, Dr. Preeti Singh, highlighted the contemporary relevance of anthropology and emphasized the need for preserving indigenous knowledge systems. Other faculty members of the department — Dr. Shuchi Srivastava, Dr. Mahesh Chandra Pal, and Mr. Kamran Ahmad — were also present and motivated the students.
Various competitions were organized as part of the programme, including:
* AI Video Competition
* Essay Writing Competition
* Folk Song Singing Competition
* Quiz Competition
All competitions were based on the theme of indigenous knowledge systems and Indian traditional knowledge traditions. Students participated enthusiastically and effectively presented the depth of Indian culture, tribal traditions, and traditional knowledge. The panel of judges included Dr. Reena Srivastava (Department of Education) and Dr. Amitabh Yadav (Department of Software), who played a key role in evaluating the events.

The winners of the competitions were awarded medals by the Principal, Prof. Devendra Kumar Singh.
On this occasion, the Department of Anthropology also opened its museum, “VIRASAT — Vigyan–Itihas–Riti-Rivaj Abhilekhan Sangrahalaya (Study and Philosophy)”, for visitors. The visitors observed rare objects, traditional tools, and cultural heritage related to tribal and Indian culture.
The programme generated renewed enthusiasm and awareness among students towards the discipline of anthropology and conveyed an important message regarding the preservation and promotion of Indian knowledge traditions.
