Ease of business through Udhyam Sarathi and online platforms; MSME Championship and tech upgrades boost competitiveness
Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has accelerated multi-tiered initiatives to integrate the state’s micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with technology, aiming to transform the sector into a competitive and market-oriented force. With over 9.6 million MSME units in the state, digital platforms, skill development programs, technological upgrades, and policy reforms have enhanced production capacities and given fresh impetus to employment generation.
By combining digital infrastructure, regulatory simplicity, and financial support, the state is laying the foundation to become a leading industrial hub. The UP budget for MSME initiatives in 2026-27 has been pegged at ₹3,822 crore, a 19% increase over the previous year.
ODOP Gains Digital Momentum
Under the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme, online platforms have been developed for marketing development, toolkit distribution, and training. These platforms provide technology-based skill training to artisans from SC, ST, and OBC communities. Linking traditional products to e-commerce and digital marketing has expanded the reach of local goods to national and international markets.
Technological Upgrades Enhance Competitiveness
The MSME Championship Initiative (Champions Portal) offers selected units technical assistance to adopt modern machinery, improve quality, and leverage digital tools. This initiative aims to reduce production costs and strengthen competitiveness. Millions of units are benefiting from digital upgrades and marketing support.

Udhyam Sarathi and RAMP Support
Launched on January 24, 2021, the Udhyam Sarathi app provides a single platform for digital registration, scheme information, and operational guidance, enabling entrepreneurs to access government incentives quickly. The RAMP (Rising and Accelerating MSME Performance) program, a World Bank-supported central initiative, offers both financial and technical assistance, boosting the expansion and modernization of MSME units.
Policy Simplicity and Faster Operations
The MSME policy implemented since 2022 has streamlined procedures. The Plug-and-Play model allows businesses to start operations within 72 hours. Measures like increased credit flow and insurance coverage up to ₹5 lakh facilitate risk management and strengthen the investment environment.
Rising Employment and Economic Impact
Technology-driven reforms have positively impacted employment. MSMEs have long been a livelihood backbone for millions, and digital transformation has created new opportunities. Integration with e-commerce and online supply chains has enabled rural and semi-urban units to access wider markets, boosting economic growth across the state.
