TATA AIG Focuses on MSMEs in Uttar Pradesh, Aims to Double Business in the State

Lucknow: Tata AIG General Insurance has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening risk protection for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Uttar Pradesh, with a focused strategy to expand its presence across key industrial hubs including Kanpur, Agra, Lucknow and Moradabad. The initiative is aimed at building on the company’s existing footprint in the NCR and doubling its MSME business in the state.

Over the past five years, Uttar Pradesh has emerged as one of India’s fastest-growing MSME ecosystems, with an average of nearly 1.3 million new MSMEs registered annually. Reflecting this growth, Tata AIG’s share of SME policies issued in the state is significantly higher than the national average. Uttar Pradesh currently contributes around 9% to Tata AIG’s overall SME portfolio, compared to the industry average of approximately 5%.

To support rising demand, Tata AIG has established a dedicated Commercial Lines Zone for Uttar Pradesh in Lucknow in FY 2026, staffed with specialised SME underwriters and claims professionals. This move is expected to enable faster risk assessment, customised coverage solutions and efficient claims support for businesses across the state.

Nearly 99% of Tata AIG’s policies in Uttar Pradesh are serviced digitally, with minimal to zero manual intervention, reflecting increasing digital adoption among local enterprises.

Tata AIG’s MSME insurance offerings provide comprehensive and modular solutions tailored to evolving business risks. The company offers MSME package policies covering a wide range of industries in Uttar Pradesh, including leather, plastics and engineering workshops. These packages provide multi-risk coverage under a single framework, including protection against fire, theft, cash loss, fidelity risks, liability and personal accidents.

In addition, customised insurance solutions are available for employees’ compensation, marine insurance and group health cover. These offerings are supported by pre-underwritten products, digital policy issuance and advanced analytics to ensure speed and accuracy.

Addressing a press conference in Lucknow on Wednesday, Pranay Shah, Head – SME, Tata AIG General Insurance, said, “Uttar Pradesh plays a pivotal role in India’s MSME growth story. Our focus is to understand the evolving risks faced by enterprises across the state and provide reliable, easily accessible insurance solutions. By strengthening our presence and investing in specialised teams, we aim to empower MSMEs, safeguard livelihoods and ensure business continuity.”

He added that in FY 2025, Tata AIG underwrote over 7.75 lakh MSME policies across India, covered more than 2 million lives under group health, group accident and employees’ compensation schemes, and achieved a 96.7% claims settlement ratio in commercial lines.

Recent fire incidents and climate-related disruptions in Uttar Pradesh have underlined the growing importance of comprehensive risk coverage for MSMEs. For enterprises operating in dense industrial and commercial clusters, insurance is increasingly becoming an essential pillar of financial preparedness rather than an optional expense.
