Municipal Corporation Launches Strict Drive Against Single-Use Plastic and Littering, Fines Worth Thousands Recovered

Lucknow: Acting on the directions of Municipal Commissioner  Gaurav Kumar, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation intensified its campaign against the use of single-use plastic and public littering across various zones of the city. As part of this initiative, a special enforcement drive was carried out in Zone-03 and Zone-08 under the instructions of the respective Zonal Sanitary Officers.

Intensive Action in Zone-03

In Zone-03, a focused anti-polythene and cleanliness अभियान was conducted along the main stretch from Kendriya Bhawan to Puraniya Chauraha, Gaushala Road, and Jankipuram Thana Road. Acting under the directions of Zonal Sanitary Officer Manoj Yadav, enforcement teams took strict action against violators.

During the drive, 15 challans were issued for littering, resulting in the recovery of ₹9,000 as fines. Additionally, 19 challans were issued for the possession and use of banned polythene, leading to a fine collection of ₹26,900. In total, 34 challans were issued and an amount of ₹35,900 was deposited into the Municipal Corporation’s treasury.

The operation was conducted in the presence of Chief Sanitation and Food Inspector Pramod Kumar Gautam,  Pushkar Singh Patel,  Sumit Mishra,  Ankaksha Goswami, along with the Enforcement Team (296 personnel) and area supervisors.

Action in Bangla Bazaar, Zone-08

Under the ongoing drive against littering and the use, transportation, storage, and sale of prohibited single-use plastic, inspections were carried out in the Bangla Bazaar area of Zone-08.

During the inspection, 9 challans were issued, and fines totaling ₹12,900 were recovered. This included ₹5,900 for littering and ₹7,000 for violations related to the use, sale, and storage of banned single-use plastic. Around 20 shops were inspected during the drive, and approximately 1 kilogram of polythene was seized.

The enforcement action was led by Zonal Sanitary Officer, Zone-08, Jitendra Gandhi, with the support of Chief Sanitation and Food Inspector Mohd. Naeem, Sanitation and Food Inspectors Satyendra Nath, Meera Rao, and Veerbhadra Singh, along with the 296 Team and ETF Team.

Municipal officials reiterated that such drives will continue regularly and appealed to citizens and traders to strictly comply with cleanliness norms and the ban on single-use plastic to keep the city clean and environmentally safe.
