Lucknow – The Sambhal Police have begun attaching properties belonging to gangster Shariq Satha, wanted in connection with the 2024 violence in the district, following a court-ordered survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid.
Hailing from Sambhal’s Deepa Sarai area, Satha is reportedly operating his criminal network from Dubai, directing local aides to carry out illegal activities. Police allege that weapons procured under his instructions were used during the November 24, 2024 clashes, which left four people dead and several others injured, including police personnel.

Sambhal Superintendent of Police Krishan Kumar confirmed that properties linked to Satha are being attached and that authorities are identifying additional assets for similar action. Satha fled India in 2020 using a fake passport and has been absconding since. He faces over 60 criminal cases, including murder, extortion, rioting, and intimidation.
Satha’s gang is also accused of running organised vehicle theft operations across Delhi and the NCR. Last year, the police issued a lookout circular to facilitate his arrest.

Following investigations into the Sambhal violence, 12 FIRs were registered across multiple police stations. Forensic evidence, including cartridges traced to Pakistan, suggested possible foreign links, further implicating Satha.
The police obtained a non-bailable warrant, declared Satha a proclaimed offender, and subsequently secured court approval to attach his properties. Notices have been displayed at his Deepa Sarai residence. Chargesheets have been filed in all 12 cases, and trials are underway.
