Lucknow – Cybercrime cases in Lucknow have risen dramatically over the past four years, increasing fivefold from 42 cases in 2022 to 215 in 2025, with total frauds amounting to Rs 76.5 crore last year. Authorities, however, have managed to recover Rs 54.2 crore through coordinated police actions.
To tackle the rising menace, the Lucknow Police Commissionerate has deployed cyber commandos across its three zones. Equipped with advanced technology and modern tools, these 15-member teams are trained to prevent cybercrime, trace offenders, and recover fraudulent funds. Training was provided by experts from IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, IIT Raipur, National Defence University, and cyber specialists from Gujarat.

DCP Crime Kamlesh Dixit said, “Just as SPG and NSG commandos are experts in their fields, cyber commandos are highly capable in dealing with cyber threats. They also train police personnel at the zone level to ensure faster and more effective investigations.”
The DCP highlighted that online fraud, social media crimes, phishing, digital blackmail, and data theft are rising rapidly. Investment scams are especially increasing, often involving fraudsters posing as women on social media to lure victims with promises of high returns.
Several high-profile cases in 2025 illustrate the trend:
-
Crypto Scam: Vikasnagar resident Anil Kumar Dwivedi lost Rs 60 lakh after joining a Telegram group promising huge crypto profits.

-
Money Laundering Fraud: Om Prakash Narayan Mishra, an 80-year-old retired DGM, was cheated of Rs 47 lakh over two days by a caller claiming to be a CBI officer.
-
Petrol Pump Investment Scam: Ambika Pratap Singh lost Rs 19.83 lakh after submitting documents to a fake dealership website.
-
Digital Arrest Scam: Gaya Prasad, a retired teacher, transferred Rs 12.57 lakh to fraudsters claiming his accounts were linked to Pakistan-based money laundering.
DCP Dixit emphasized that the government is taking the issue seriously and that cyber commandos, all police personnel above head constable rank, are being continuously trained to combat these crimes and ensure strict action against cybercriminals.
