Theme park to be developed over 11 hectares at a cost of ₹22.93 crore
Lucknow: In a major step toward strengthening the historical and spiritual identity of Kaushambi, the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department is fast-tracking the development of an ambitious Buddha Theme Park at Kosam Inam village. The project aims to showcase the life, philosophy and message of compassion of Lord Buddha through artistic sculptures and immersive cultural spaces.

Sharing details of the project, Tourism and Culture Minister Shri Jaiveer Singh said that the Buddha Theme Park is being developed over an area of nearly 11 hectares at an estimated cost of ₹22.93 crore, with a target to complete the project by the end of the current year. He said the park will significantly enhance Kaushambi’s global identity as an important Buddhist heritage destination.
The minister said that in line with the government’s vision, the park is being developed as a unique spiritual tourism hub for Buddhist followers and tourists from India and abroad. The project is expected to give Kaushambi a prominent place on the global Buddhist tourism circuit, while also boosting regional tourism, employment opportunities and the local economy.
The Buddha Theme Park in Kaushambi is being developed on the lines of Buddhavanam at Nagarjuna Sagar in Telangana. It will feature a range of facilities dedicated to meditation, cultural activities and spiritual learning. A dedicated meditation centre based on various postures of Lord Buddha—such as Dharmachakra Mudra, Abhaya Mudra and Bhumisparsha Mudra—will be a key attraction.

One of the most significant components of the project will be Buddhacharita Vanam, where the life journey of Lord Buddha—from birth to Mahaparinirvana—will be depicted through sculptures. In addition, special zones such as the Jataka Mural Gallery, Dhyana Vanam and Stupa Gallery are being developed to provide visitors with a deeper spiritual and cultural experience.
The Stupa Gallery will feature replicas of 13 renowned stupas from countries including Sri Lanka, Thailand, South Korea, Myanmar, Nepal, Tibet, Afghanistan and Pakistan, along with prominent Buddhist sites from Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. This will establish the complex as a comprehensive national and international cultural-spiritual centre.
Principal Secretary, Tourism and Culture, Amrit Abhijat, said that the Kaushambi Buddha Theme Park represents a strong integration of heritage conservation and world-class tourism infrastructure. He emphasized that Kaushambi has a deep historical association with Lord Buddha, making it a site of international significance. “Our effort is to provide visitors from across the world with a rich spiritual experience supported by modern facilities,” he said.
