New Delhi | Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan inaugurated the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Republic Day Camp (RDC) 2026 at the DG NCC Camp in Delhi Cantonment, underlining the vital role of the NCC in nation-building and youth development. Addressing the gathering, he described NCC cadets as the “face of New India,” highlighting their discipline, sense of responsibility and deep-rooted patriotism.
The Vice President was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour by cadets from all three wings of the NCC—the Army, Navy and Air Force—at the opening ceremony. He later visited the NCC Hall of Fame, where he was briefed about the organisation’s rich legacy, key milestones and its evolution over the past seven decades. He noted that in its 78-year journey, the NCC has grown into the world’s largest uniformed youth organisation while remaining firmly committed to its founding ideals.

Extending New Year greetings to the cadets, the Vice President said the Republic Day Camp is not merely a training programme but a powerful symbol of national unity and faith in the country’s youth. Referring to the NCC motto “Unity and Discipline,” he said these values shape confident, ethical and service-oriented citizens who will lay the foundation of a developed India by 2047.
Highlighting the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Vice President said the path to an Atmanirbhar Bharat runs through a generation of skilled, disciplined and socially conscious youth. In this journey, he added, the NCC plays a crucial role by strengthening young minds not only physically, but also mentally and morally.
Recalling the contribution of NCC cadets during Operation Sindoor, the Vice President said their service reflected the true spirit of selfless dedication. He noted that more than 72,000 cadets voluntarily participated in civil defence and disaster management efforts, once again proving that NCC cadets never hesitate to step forward when the nation needs them.
He further observed that the Republic Day Camp brings to life the constitutional values of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity. Cadets from different states and Union Territories live and train together during the camp, gaining first-hand experience of India’s unity in diversity and developing a shared national outlook.

The Vice President also praised the NCC’s contributions in areas such as adventure activities, international youth exchange programmes, environmental protection and disaster relief. He specifically cited the exemplary relief work carried out by cadets during the floods in Wayanad, Kerala. Initiatives like the ‘Puneet Sagar Abhiyan’, ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, anti-drug campaigns, blood donation drives and the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign were described as inspiring examples of social commitment.
Welcoming the modernisation of NCC training, the Vice President appreciated the introduction of cyber and drone training as well as the establishment of a Remote Pilot Training Academy. He said such initiatives are essential in preparing young people to face emerging technological and security challenges, while equipping them with skills relevant to the future.
He also commended the dedication of NCC officers, instructors and staff, stating that their continuous efforts play a key role in shaping the character of the nation’s youth. The event featured cultural performances by cadets, showcasing India’s rich cultural diversity and national pride.
The programme was attended by NCC Director General Lieutenant General Virendra Vats, senior officers, instructors and more than 2,400 cadets from across the country, including a large number of women cadets. The Republic Day Camp 2026 will conclude on January 28 with the Prime Minister’s Rally, where cadets will demonstrate their training, discipline and collective spirit.
