DSMNRU Conducts Successful Prosthetics & Orthotics Awareness and Screening Camp at JP Narayan Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, Lucknow

Lucknow: The Dr. Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University (DSMNRU) organized a comprehensive Prosthetics & Orthotics Awareness and Screening Camp at Jai Prakash Narayan Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, Mohan Road, Lucknow on Tuesday. The camp, conducted by the university’s Artificial Limb & Rehabilitation Centre, aimed to educate students about prosthetic limbs, orthotic devices, body alignment issues, and the broader framework of disability empowerment.

Strong Participation from Students and Teachers

The event witnessed enthusiastic involvement from the school’s students and teachers. During the camp, experts examined children for potential signs of disabilities such as flat foot, genu valgum, genu varum, cerebral palsy, talipes equinus, rheumatoid arthritis, and other structural deformities including boutonnière deformity, cubitus valgus, genetic conditions, and spinal curvature (scoliosis). Students were also educated about early detection methods and the importance of timely intervention.

430 Students Screened, 48 Found with Symptoms

A team led by Ms. Anupriya Tripathi, Demonstrator, Faculty of Prosthetics and Orthotics, screened a total of 430 participants.
Out of these, 48 children showed symptoms of various orthopedic and structural disorders. Detailed assessments were conducted for conditions such as:

  • Spine deformities
  • Genu valgum and genu varum
  • Flat foot
  • Limb length discrepancy (LLD)
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Talipes equinus
  • Boutonnière deformity
  • Cubitus valgus
  • Structural deformities of the feet

Those found with symptoms were advised to visit the Artificial Limb & Rehabilitation Centre for further evaluation and early treatment.

Awareness Session and Demonstration

The camp began with Ms. Tripathi presenting a bouquet to School Principal Shri Vinod Kumar, marking the formal inauguration.
Students Navneet Tiwari and Sahil Saxena from DSMNRU conducted an insightful presentation on the importance of prosthetic limbs, orthotic devices, and modern rehabilitation techniques. They also explained the use of assistive devices and their role in improving mobility and independence.

Principal Applauds DSMNRU’s Initiative

School Principal Shri Vinod Kumar praised the university for organising such a meaningful and informative initiative and invited DSMNRU to conduct similar camps in the future. Students also received on-the-spot counselling from university experts regarding available rehabilitation services.

Organized Under University Leadership

The camp was successfully conducted under the guidance of Vice-Chancellor Acharya Sanjay Singh, with support from Registrar Shri Rohit Singh and Dean (Academic) Acharya V.K. Singh.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Ranjeet Kumar, Workshop Manager, Artificial Limb & Rehabilitation Centre, along with coordinator Ms. Anupriya Tripathi, and students of the Prosthetics & Orthotics Department, whose active participation ensured the camp’s success.

The initiative reaffirmed DSMNRU’s commitment to creating awareness about physical disabilities and promoting early diagnosis to reduce disability rates through timely medical and rehabilitative support.
