Lucknow: Lucknow seat is considered a VVIP seat in the Lok Sabha elections of Uttar Pradesh. Union Defense Minister and MP Rajnath Singh is contesting from this seat. Lucknow is considered the stronghold of BJP, this time BJP has set the target of making Rajnath Singh win the elections by a margin of five lakh votes.
This time, Lucknow Development Authority has setup model polling centers in 14 apartments of the city. Not only will a red carpet be laid to welcome the voters, but there will also be arrangements for sofas and chairs for them to sit, clean water and butter milk for drinking. Attractive selfie points will also be made at these model centres, where people can take their photographs after casting their vote.
Dr. Indramani Tripathi, Vice Chairman of Lucknow Development Authority, held an important meeting with officials and private developers regarding the preparations for the model polling station. Tent shade will be compulsorily installed to protect the voters from the sun.
Attractive entrance gates are made at the centres, which will be decorated with colorful balloons as well as flower pots. It is mandatory to ensure the provision of wheel chairs for the elderly, disabled people and pregnant women etc. at every polling station.
Private developers have also been organizing voter awareness programs in the apartment complex itself in coordination with the RWA (Resident Welfare Association) formed in group housing. Apart from the youth and women who are going to vote for the first time, voters of different categories should be focused and motivated to cast their vote.
Recently the district election officer and district magistrate Suryapal Gangwar oversaw the second training session for polling personnel at Jai Narain (KKC) PG College. He was also part of dialogues on varied business forums. Organised in two shifts, the training sessions aimed to ensure that all personnel involved in the election process are well-prepared.
Gangwar inspected the training centre, visiting each room and interacting with the trainees to ensure that the arrangements were satisfactory. In all, 3,210 personnel were assigned.
Elaborating the plan, Gangwar highlighted the mandatory nature of this training, adding that participation is crucial for the smooth conduct of elections. He said any personnel absent would face legal consequences, including the lodging of a first information report (FIR) under the Representation of People Act.
He said their commitment is to ensure all election duties are performed efficiently and effectively to maintain the integrity and success of the election process.
Preparations for Lucknow and Mohanlalganj elections started recently. The nomination process for the Lucknow Lok Sabha seat and its sister constituency Mohanlalganj continued till May 3.
District magistrate Surya Pal Gangwar said that authorities are well prepared to ensure that the nomination process are conducted freely and transparently with due compliance of the guidelines of the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The DM said security provisions have been put in place. While only three vehicles will be allowed in the convoy of candidates to cross the barricades installed between the Swasthya Bhawan intersection and the Chakbast intersection, no vehicle or weapon-wielding security guards will be allowed within 100 metres of the enrollment site. Not just the premises, but its surrounding areas too remain peaceful,” Gangwar noted.
In a recent press conference District Election Officer/District Magistrate Suryapal Gangwar said the nomination process started in Lucknow from April 26. Voting for Lucknow, Mohanlal Ganj Lok Sabha will be held on May 20. He said our aim is to ensure better voting in Lucknow urban and rural areas. There were 35 lakh voters in the 2019 elections, out of which 15 lakh people voted. Efforts will be made to remove the reasons due to which voting percentage was low. After four phases of voting in the Lok Sabha elections, now it is the turn of the fifth phase. In the fifth phase, voters will decide the fate of 144 candidates on 14 Lok Sabha seats of Uttar Pradesh on May 20. This phase of Lok Sabha elections is to be held on the seats in Awadh and Budelkhand areas, where BJP has been dominant since the last two elections. BJP had won 12 seats in 2014 and it has increased to 13 in 2019. The only seat the opposition has is Rae Bareli. This time the contest is considered to be quite different from the last two elections. In the fifth phase, five out of 14 seats have low margins.
In the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections, Awadh region has 8 Lok Sabha seats and Bulandelkhand has four seats. Apart from this, two seats are from Doab area. Lucknow, Mohanlalganj, Rae Bareli, Amethi, Faizabad, Kaiserganj, Barabanki, Gonda seats fall in Awadh region. Bulandkhand has Jalaun, Jhansi, Hamirpur and Banda seats. Apart from this, there are Fatehpur and Kaushambi seats, where voting will be held on May 20.
In 2009, along with retaining its traditional seats Rae Bareli and Amethi, Congress also won Faizabad, Gonda, Barabanki and Jhansi, while BSP won Hamirpur Lok Sabha seat. Except Lucknow seat, SP was successful in winning the remaining seats. In 2014, except Rae Bareli and Amethi seats, BJP was successful in winning all the seats in the Modi wave and in 2019 it also won the Amethi seat.
