UP Women’s Commission Chair Issues Directives to Police Ahead of Major Festivals

Lucknow: Dr. Babita Singh Chauhan, Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh State Women’s Commission, has issued strict instructions to all District Magistrates, Police Commissioners, Senior Police Officers, and Superintendents of Police to ensure safety and order during the ongoing festival season, including **Navratri, Durga Puja, Dussehra, and Diwali.

Dr. Chauhan highlighted that large-scale cultural and religious programs—such as Garba, Dandiya, and Ramlila—see heavy participation from women, girls, and families, keeping traditions alive. However, reports indicate that some antisocial elements may attend such events with concealed identities, potentially compromising safety and decorum.

Officials have been directed to allow entry only to participants presenting valid identification and take strict legal action against those attempting to conceal their identity. The Commission emphasized coordination among organizers, administration, and police to ensure robust security measures, allowing women and families to celebrate festivals in a safe and respectful environment.

Dr. Chauhan reiterated that maintaining the dignity and sanctity of cultural events is a collective societal responsibility.
