Uttar Pradesh to Celebrate ‘National Space Day’ in Schools

State Aims to Inspire Next-Gen Scientists with Focus on India’s Space Achievements

Lucknow: In a landmark initiative to ignite a passion for science and technology, the Yogi Adityanath government has announced that it will celebrate the second ‘National Space Day’ on August 23 in all council schools across Uttar Pradesh. The event is designed to foster curiosity and interest in space science among young students while highlighting India’s significant achievements in the field.

The celebration will also mark the launch of a new NCERT-prepared module titled, “India – A Rising Space Power.” Special activities are planned for students in primary, upper primary, composite, and Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs). These include school assemblies, educational exhibitions, interactive workshops, and online or offline sessions led by experts.

Inspiring the Next Generation

Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh emphasized that India’s ongoing successes in space exploration—with missions like Chandrayaan, Aditya-L1, and Gaganyaan—serve as a powerful source of inspiration for the younger generation. “By familiarizing students with these achievements, we can connect them with the world of space science and technology. This initiative also reinforces the government’s commitment to Samagra Shiksha, Samagra Vikas (holistic education, holistic development),” he said.

This focused approach aims to bridge the gap between classroom education and real-world scientific advancements, encouraging students to see themselves as future contributors to India’s space journey.

Paving the Way for STEM Careers

A key goal of the celebration is to motivate students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) by nurturing their interest in research and innovation from an early age. The government hopes that through engaging sessions and practical exposure, it can lay a strong foundation for future scientists, engineers, and innovators who will drive India’s growth.

The initiative is part of a broader strategy to make education more dynamic and relevant, moving beyond traditional curricula to inspire creative and critical thinking.

Resources and Modernization for Enhanced Learning

Director General of School Education Kanchan Verma stated that a variety of digital resources have been made available to students, including DIKSHA, NISHTHA, the NCERT website, and the ‘Bharat on the Moon’ portal, which are regularly updated with space-related educational content. Following its launch, the new NCERT module, “India – A Rising Space Power,” will be accessible on the National Digital Library and NCERT website.

She further highlighted that the government has already taken steps to modernize council schools by introducing smart classes, digital libraries, drone labs, and robotics labs to promote innovation and technical education. With the observance of National Space Day, these efforts will gain fresh momentum, equipping students in Uttar Pradesh’s council schools with the 21st-century learning tools they need to succeed. This holistic approach ensures that students are not only inspired by India’s space missions but also have the resources to turn their curiosity into a career.
