Ayodhya to Name Urban Forests After Sita, Lakshman, and Bharat; Massive Green Push Underway

Ayodhya

Ayodhya : In a major step toward urban greening and environmental enrichment, Ayodhya Municipal Corporation has announced the development of four themed urban forests and plantations in 64 city parks. These green zones will be named after revered mythological figures from the Ramayana — Mata Janaki (Sita), Lakshman, and Bharat, symbolizing a blend of ecological progress with cultural heritage.

Municipal Commissioner Jayendra Kumar confirmed that under this large-scale afforestation initiative, 61,700 saplings will be planted across the city. In addition to the symbolic naming, the forests will be developed using the Miyawaki technique, known for its rapid growth and high-density plantation that mimics natural forest ecosystems.

Highlights of the Project:

  • Janaki Van will be developed in Abbuserai over 1.31 acres, featuring 14,000 saplings, a walking track, and an open gym for local residents.
  • Bharat Van will come up in Kushmaha on 2.62 acres, with 28,000 saplings covering 2 acres using the Miyawaki method. The remaining space will include modern amenities like high-mast lighting, open gym, and rainwater harvesting.
  • Lakshman Vatika, to be established in Vanveerpur, will host 3,000 trees over one acre, alongside pedestrian-friendly infrastructure.
  • A Flower Garden named Tapovan is being developed on one acre, with 500 ornamental and shady plants from India and abroad, and 10,000 sq ft of carpet grass. Tapovan will also include a selfie point and a food court, becoming a potential hotspot for visitors and residents alike.

The city’s Public Relations Officer, Mukesh Kumar Pandey, added that Mayor Mahant Girish Pati Tripathi has entrusted Additional Municipal Commissioner Sumit Kumar with overseeing the development of the themed gardens.

Municipal officials believe that these green initiatives will not only enhance biodiversity and air quality, but also promote health and wellness among citizens through open gyms and walking tracks. The integration of mythology, ecology, and modern urban amenities reflects Ayodhya’s evolving identity as both a cultural and eco-conscious city.

As Ayodhya prepares for a more sustainable future, these symbolic green spaces will serve as a reminder of its rich heritage while offering practical environmental and recreational benefits to its citizens.
