Akhilesh Yadav Slams BJP Over Education Crisis, Vows Teacher-Friendly Reforms Under SP Rule

Lucknow : Samajwadi Party national president and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has launched a scathing attack on the ruling BJP government, accusing it of “destroying the education system” and “systematically exploiting teachers.” Speaking during a crucial meeting with representatives of D.El.Ed, BTC, Secondary Education, and Shiksha Mitra associations at the SP headquarters in Lucknow, Yadav said that the BJP regime is “anti-youth, anti-teacher, and anti-employment.”

“When it comes to education and educators, the BJP government becomes deaf and mute. It is conspiring to shut down schools to reduce the need for jobs. Fewer schools mean fewer teachers. And fewer teachers mean no new employment,” said Yadav.

‘My Bond With Teachers Is Personal and Political’

Highlighting his deep-rooted connection with the teaching community, Akhilesh Yadav said, “Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav) was a teacher himself. As a teacher’s son, I share a family bond with educators. Their pain is my pain.” He assured that once the SP returns to power, all teacher-related issues and the struggles of unemployed youth will be resolved.

Yadav reaffirmed the SP’s commitment to respect and honour teachers. “Whenever we meet them, we not only greet them but also show them the respect they deserve. But under the BJP, teachers are being insulted, harassed, and overburdened with non-academic tasks.”

Digital Attendance, Transfers and Harassment

He took a sharp dig at the government’s digital attendance initiative, calling it an impractical burden imposed arbitrarily. “The government was forced to withdraw the digital attendance plan after stiff resistance from teachers. It was the power of unity that forced the regime to step back,” he noted.

Yadav also alleged corruption in teacher transfers and postings. “A teacher recently told me there’s a fixed rate for transfers. Is this what governance has come to?”

Merging Schools, Denying Education to the Poor

He described the BJP’s school merger policy as “a strategic move to deprive rural and poor children of education.” According to Yadav, “Two lakh teaching positions are vacant in UP. The government isn’t recruiting because it wants to shut down schools to reduce hiring.”

SP’s Track Record and Future Promises

Recalling SP-era initiatives, Yadav said, “Our government introduced schemes like Kanya Vidya Dhan and the free laptop program, which brought many girls back to classrooms. BJP has not only scrapped these schemes but also failed to provide any alternatives. The infrastructure is crumbling, and resources are nonexistent.”

He asserted that any good society wants its daughters to be educated. “The BJP is deceiving the poor. They neither invest in education nor care about the future of our children.”

Saluting the Spirit of Struggle

Akhilesh congratulated Shiksha Mitras and the 69,000 teaching aspirants for their prolonged struggles. “You are fighting for your rights. SP stands firmly with every student, teacher, and youth who is raising their voice for justice.”

Prominent Leaders in Attendance

Senior party leaders present included Leader of Opposition Mata Prasad Pandey, MP Devesh Shakya, Legislative Council Leader of Opposition Lal Bihari Yadav, former Cabinet Minister Rajendra Chaudhary, SP Teachers’ Association President Prof. B. Pandey, SP Teachers’ State President Dr. S.P. Singh Patel, MLAs Ram Achal Rajbhar, Virendra Yadav, and Kamalakant Rajbhar, among others.

A Call to Rebuild Education

Akhilesh Yadav concluded with a clear message: “Samajwadi Party will restore dignity to education, empower teachers, and ensure every child—especially girls—gets access to quality learning. We will reverse the damage done by BJP and make UP a knowledge-powered state once again.”

In a time when education is at a crossroads in Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party has positioned itself as the voice of the teaching community, pledging reforms, jobs, and respect.
