UP Tourism to Launch QR Code-Based Audio Tours at 100 Iconic Sites

Tourists to Enjoy 5–7 Minute Audio Stories in 15 Languages Covering Cultural and Historical Significance

Lucknow: In a major digital push to boost tourism, the Yogi Adityanath-led government in Uttar Pradesh is set to roll out QR code-based audio tours at 100 prominent tourist destinations across the state. This ambitious project, spearheaded by the Department of Tourism, aims to provide both domestic and international visitors with an immersive, informative, and multilingual experience rooted in the rich heritage and diversity of Uttar Pradesh.

Multi-language Audio Content with Professional Voiceovers

Under the initiative, visitors will be able to scan stainless-steel, weather-resistant QR codes placed at key locations to access 5–7 minute engaging audio narratives. These stories will be professionally recorded by voiceover artists and will include ambient sound effects and background music for a more vivid experience.

The audio tours will be made available in 10 Indian languages—Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, English, Kannada, Odia, and Malayalam—and 5 international languages—French, Spanish, German, Japanese, and Mandarin—ensuring accessibility for a wide and diverse audience.

Support for Hearing-Impaired Visitors

In a strong push for inclusive tourism, the system will also offer multilingual subtitles and high-contrast text options to assist hearing-impaired tourists in navigating and understanding the information.

Top 100 Tourist Destinations Identified

The initiative will cover 100 iconic tourist destinations including Triveni Sangam and Anand Bhavan in Prayagraj; Shri Ram Janmabhoomi and Kanak Bhavan in Ayodhya; Kashi Vishwanath Temple and the Ganga Aarti in Varanasi; the Taj Mahal in Agra; Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi and Banke Bihari Temple in Mathura-Vrindavan; and the Bara Imambara in Lucknow, among others.

Offline Access and Expert Content Review

To ensure seamless access even in low-network areas, the tourism department is also developing provisions for offline usage. The content will be reviewed by expert panels consisting of historians, archaeologists, and cultural scholars from reputed institutions such as Banaras Hindu University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, and the Archaeological Survey of India, ensuring that the information is historically accurate, culturally relevant, and engaging.

Digital Integration with Website and App

The QR codes will be fully integrated into the Uttar Pradesh Tourism website and its Android and iOS apps, making the audio tours readily accessible. This tech-driven approach marks a significant step toward transforming UP’s tourism into a modern, interactive, and inclusive experience.

By fusing heritage with innovation, the state aims to enhance visitor engagement and promote Uttar Pradesh as a top-tier global tourist destination.
