New Delhi: In a significant step to enhance its defence capabilities, India has signed a deal with the United States to procure 31 MQ-9B Predator drones, aimed at bolstering the operational readiness of its armed forces. The acquisition includes both MQ-9B Sky Guardian and Sea Guardian drones for the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force.
The agreement was formalized in New Delhi in the presence of Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane, marking a major advancement in India’s military strength. Along with the primary deal, the Defence Ministry also entered into a separate agreement with General Atomics Global India Pvt Ltd for the indigenous procurement, maintenance, and repair of the drones, underscoring the focus on self-reliance in defence.
These 31 drones are expected to be a game-changer for India’s defence forces, capable of flying at speeds of around 4,000 kmph, at altitudes of up to 40,000 feet, and equipped with missile-carrying capabilities. They are set to provide critical surveillance and strike capabilities, enhancing India’s security across land, sea, and air domains.
This acquisition marks a major boost to India’s military preparedness, ensuring advanced technology integration into its defence infrastructure.
