Lucknow: In a significant development for electricity consumers in Uttar Pradesh, Energy Minister A.K. Sharma announced that there will be no increase in electricity rates for the fifth consecutive year. This decision comes as a result of the government’s commitment to providing affordable electricity to residents and businesses across the state.
Speaking at a press conference, Minister Sharma expressed gratitude for the support of the Prime Minister and the leadership of the Chief Minister, emphasizing the hard work and efficient management of the state’s electricity workers. He stated, “The continued stability in electricity rates is a testament to our commitment to serve the people of Uttar Pradesh effectively.”
Sharma highlighted several key benefits that will accompany this decision:
- Reduced Tariffs for Exporting Entrepreneurs: Entrepreneurs engaged in exporting goods abroad will see a reduction in their electricity rates through the green tariff, significantly lowering their input costs.
- Subsidized Rates for EV Charging Stations: Public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations will benefit from a cheaper tariff (LMV-11), including those operated by the State Road Transport. This move aims to promote the use of electric buses and enhance sustainable transport options.
- Affordable Charges for Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS): The RRTS will be charged at the same rates as metro rail services, making it a more economical option for commuters.
- Lower Rates for IT/ITES Industries: The government has announced that IT and IT-enabled services (IT/ITES) industries, consuming up to 150 kV, will now qualify for the HV-2 industrial tariff rates, leading to significant savings for businesses in this sector.
- Abolition of Disconnection Charges: The previous charge of Rs 50 for the disconnection and reconnection of smart meters has been abolished, further easing the financial burden on consumers.
A.K. Sharma reiterated the government’s dedication to ensuring affordable and reliable electricity for all, aiming to foster a conducive environment for economic growth and sustainability in the state.
With these measures, Uttar Pradesh aims to enhance its position as a progressive state committed to the welfare of its citizens, while also encouraging entrepreneurship and the adoption of green technologies.
